DESCRIPTIONS DE DESCRIPTIONS

Descriptions de descriptions is the title of a collection of articles posthumously published in 1979. It brings together critical prose devoted to films and books, both classics and works by his peers and fellow writers. Under this generic title, we propose to assemble, as exemplified by Pasolini’s location–based films which are present in this section, works that stage their own gaze, placing at the very heart of the work the work itself. It is flagrant in the film in the premier competition by Jean-Marc Lamoure, Tarr Belà, I used to be a filmmaker, a portrait of the cult Hungarian filmmaker shooting what he decrees to be his final opus, The Turin Horse. But it is also obvious in the presence of a puppet in Valérie Jouve’s film (La Traversée), or in the disturbing Don Quichotte à Nanterre shot in 1980 by the famous Raoul Sangla.
